INTERN SPOTLIGHT—Abby Miller

Abby Miller
Accounting & Outsourced Solutions Department

Michigan State University—May 2019

Major: Accounting

Meet Abby Miller, 2018 tax season intern working in the Accounting and Outsourced Solutions Department. Abby is a current student at Michigan State University and will be graduating in May of 2019 with her undergraduate degree and plans to continue on for her Master’s degree at MSU while starting the CPA exam. Abby has always been a math and numbers person which led her to be interested in accounting.

Abby is originally from Milford, Michigan just like fellow intern, Bill Yates. Abby is very family oriented and enjoys spending time with her older brother and sister. Her cousin is a member of the MSU football team so her family enjoys cheering on the Spartans during football season.

Why did you choose Maner Costerisan to intern with?
Building relationships with the people I work with has always been very important to me, and Maner was the only company I interviewed with where everyone knew everyone in the office which I highly appreciated.

What has been your favorite thing about working at Maner Costerisan?
So far I have enjoyed getting close with all the interns and people in my department. Never once have I felt like an actual intern here; everyone treats you as if you’ve been here just as long as them.

What was your first day at Maner Costerisan like?
I actually thought I would be more nervous than I was, but everyone was so welcoming where it didn’t really feel like I was new to the firm in anyway.

What has been the most difficult aspect of your internship?
The adjustment to time. Sometimes I feel like I am taking way too long on something that shouldn’t take that amount of time so I’ll get frustrated with myself, but I just have to remind myself that I am only an intern and this is a learning experience.

What advice or tips would you give to a new intern?
Everyone will say this, but don’t be afraid to ask questions! You are here to learn, and you can’t do so without the help of those around you.

Have you had a lot of interaction with the other interns? Do you work together or independently the majority of the time?
The majority of my time I work independently, but outside of work I would say the interns have become pretty close.
