Acct & Outsourced Solutions and Audit Department

Grand Valley State University —May 2018
Major: Accounting

Meet Cameron (Cam) Lansdale, 2018 summer  intern working in the Accounting & Outsourced Solutions and the Audit Department. Cam recently graduated from GVSU with his Bachelor’s degree and will be starting the  Masters program this fall. He will graduate in Spring or Summer 2019 with his Master’s in Accounting.

Cam is a returning intern and did his first internship with Maner during tax season 2017 and will be starting with Maner full time upon his graduation next year.

Cam is originally from Clinton Township, Michigan. He is the oldest of 4 siblings. Cam enjoys playing baseball and basketball in his spare time and also enjoys camping. He recently returned from his annual 4th of July camping trip with a bunch of his friends and had a fantastic time.

Why did you choose a career path in public accounting?
During my junior year at GVSU, I had the opportunity to take part in a tax internship at Maner Costerisan as well as a finance internship at an office manufacturer. This gave me an in depth look at both the public and corporate sides of accounting. In the end, I decided that I liked the work and firm culture much better at Maner and decided to stick with public accounting.

What has been your favorite thing about working at Maner Costerisan?
I have really enjoyed the non work-related activities put on by Maner. The tax party and the golf outing were a blast, and I really enjoyed playing pick up basketball and bowling during tax season. I didn’t get a chance to play softball this year, but I am looking forward to playing on the team in the future as well.

What was your first day at Maner Costerisan like?
It was a lot of information all at once. All the interns were in a room together learning about Maner as well as what we would be doing while we were here. I was a little nervous going into the day, but that quickly disappeared once I saw how friendly everyone was.

What are your duties as an intern?
Right now, I am working on projects for the Accounting and Outsourced Solutions department. These projects vary, but my current task is to prepare quarterly financial statements for a telecommunications client. Next week I will be switching over to Audit where I will be assisting in the auditing of school districts.

What advice or tips would you give to a new intern?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and don’t be afraid of the partners. They are all great people.
