Michigan State University—May 2018
Major: Accounting

Meet Courtney Kelterborn, 2018 summer intern working in the Accounting & Outsourced Solutions and the Tax Department. Courtney recently graduated from MSU with her Bachelor’s degree and will be starting the Masters program this fall. She will graduate in May 2019 with his Master’s in Accounting.
Courtney is originally from Holt and is an only child. She enjoys playing softball, kayaking and hiking during the Michigan summers and also loves to attend MSU sporting events, especially football and basketball. Courtney recently adopted a kitten named Rosa, whom she says is “a ball of energy!”Why did you choose Maner Costerisan to intern with?
I’ve heard great things from people I’ve met that work here, and after attending the Live the Dream summer leadership program and in office interviews, it seemed like the perfect fit.

What has been your favorite thing about working at Maner Costerisan?
The people! Everyone here is so nice and helpful so I always feel like I can ask for help when I need it, because everyone really wants you to succeed. I’ve also really enjoyed the range of projects and clients I’ve gotten to work on as an intern.

What was your first day at Maner Costerisan like?
I was nervous when I started because I hadn’t had an accounting internship before and some of the software training is a little overwhelming at first, but everyone here is so encouraging and willing to help when you have questions that I really had no need to be nervous. I also was given projects to work on within my first couple of days here, so you really get the chance to learn by doing here.

What are your duties as an intern?
As an intern I get to work on lots of different clients which is great experience. I get to work on different tasks within my department and have a great opportunity to spend half my internship in the Accounting and Outsourced Solutions department and half in the Tax department, which gives me even more exposure to the type of work I’ll be doing in the future as an accountant. So far as part of the Accounting and Outsourced Solutions department, I spend time doing payroll and journal entries as well as completing bank reconciliations for clients.

Who have you gotten a chance to interact with during your internship? (ie clients, partners, etc)
I’ve gotten a chance to interact with a lot of the staff here, from the other interns all the way up to partners. I get the chance to sit in on full department meetings once a week, as well as getting to work with many different staff members and managers on daily assignments.

What advice or tips would you give to a new intern?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it! No one expects you to come in knowing everything, and you’re here to learn so make the most of that opportunity. Also, get to know people in the office. Everyone is really nice and working in a close-knit office like this is a really great chance to make connections with lots of accounting professionals.
