NEW East Lansing Income Tax

On January 1, 2019 the City of East Lansing became the 24th city in Michigan to impose an income tax. If you live or work in the City of East Lansing, you are subject to this new income tax. Residents are subject to a 1% tax and non-residents working in East Lansing are subject to a .5% tax.

Individuals who live or work in East Lansing should either plan on paying quarterly estimated tax payments or confirm you are having enough withheld from your paychecks. The first of the quarterly estimated tax payments is due on April 30, 2019.

Business entities (C corporation, S corporation, Partnerships and Non-profits with unrelated business income) located or doing business in East Lansing, should plan on making quarterly estimated tax payments to the City of East Lansing, if the expected tax liability will be more than $250 (taxable income exceeding $25,000).

A trust or estate may also be subject to these requirements.
