“I have a passion for my work and enjoy sharing that excitement with my clients. It’s important for my clients to know I am looking out for their best interests so they have confidence in my service and peace of mind with their tax situations.”
Marvina has been with Maner Costerisan since 1999 and joined the firm’s principal group in 2010. She currently serves in the firm’s tax department, specializing in services for organizations in the nonprofit sector. Marvina is Maner Costerisan’s go-to professional for nonprofit tax issues and Form 990 preparation and reporting. She also provides income tax reporting services to a wide variety of individuals and small businesses.
Marvina began her professional career in 1994. Beyond her service with Maner Costerisan, she has over 20 years of experience as the controller for a small business. This real world application blended with her education has provided Marvina with a deep understanding of the various challenges facing entrepreneurs in both the nonprofit and for-profit communities. As a result, she has helped numerous clients meet their IRS filing requirements and avoid thousands of dollars in penalties. Marvina has also successfully represented clients before the IRS and the State of Michigan taxing authorities.
Over the years, Marvina has developed a knack for sharing her nonprofit and general business expertise through authoring and presenting. Since 2004, she has served as an annual speaker at the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) Nonprofit Conference. In addition, she has taught weekend seminars at Lansing Community College for small business owners and has presented for the Power of We Consortium, Rotary of Grand Ledge, various Michigan school districts, St. Vincent Catholic Charities, Stepping Stone and Maner Costerisan’s annual Nonprofit Conference. Marvina has also written a variety of articles on nonprofit tax issues for The Greater Lansing Business Monthly Magazine.
Marvina was inspired to pursue an accounting career because it gave her the opportunity to work in a field where she could be independent. After witnessing people who depended on others throughout her life experiences, it was important for Marvina to stand on her own two feet, become someone who makes a difference and believe anything is possible. Today she attributes her success to hard work, perseverance and the joy she has for her work.
Raised in Columbus, Ohio, Marvina currently resides in Lansing with her husband and three cats. While away from the office, she enjoys reading, crafting and doing needlework.
