Matthew joined Maner Costerisan as an intern in 2005 and advanced himself to a full-time position in 2006. He currently holds the position of senior manager in the firm’s tax department. Matthew specializes in working with closely held businesses in minimizing tax liability and maximizing business growth and value. In addition, he works closely with the firm’s affordable housing niche. Matthew is the go-to professional for state and local taxes and the Affordable Care Act.
The knowledge and experience Matthew has gained over the years has equipped him with the skill set necessary to meet the individual needs of his clients. Specifically, he has helped individuals through tax audits. During the tax audit process, Matthew takes the time to explain the necessary steps and information to the client, including what the process will be and what is needed to minimize any potential tax bill. He feels that his informative approach helps to sooth the worries of his clients and assists them in creating a positive outcome.
Matthew is also no stranger to the podium. He is a respected professional within the local marketplace. Over the years, Matthew has spoken at the Lansing Chamber of Commerce on the Affordable Care Act Tax Update and has also conducted several firm seminars. In addition, he has written an article on the Michigan Tax Update for the Associated Builders and Contractors of Michigan on the Michigan.
Matthew describes himself as calm under pressure and his co-workers know him to be a dependable team member. He credits his hard work ethic, ability to work well with others and having strong self-motivation to get the work done as the guiding forces in his success.
Matthew recently had the opportunity to coach for Okemos High School. During his time there, the team experienced a series of tragedies that would have disheartened most. Instead, Matthew describes a team that came together and worked hard to achieve the goals they set out to accomplish despite their hardships. This experience taught him that hard work and strong character can help you through even the toughest of times. He now puts this philosophy into his interaction with clients and co-workers.
Matthew grew up in Grand Blanc, Michigan and currently resides in East Lansing. He is very active in sports, particularly, water polo. What some people may not know is that he once worked for a PGA tour and had the pleasure of meeting Tiger Woods. In addition, Matthew is an avid Red Wings, Tigers, Spartans and Lions fan.
